Body Dysmorphic Disorder
September 10, 2011Hello Friends,
A national teen magazine has asked me to write an article about body dysmorphic disorder. As you may know, BDD is often, though not always associated with eating disorders. In a nutshell, BDD is the inability to see one's body accurately AND the obsession with one ore more body parts that are perceived to be "wrong" in some way. BDD can contribute to the development of an eating disorder, unnecessary plastic surgery, and extreme shame leading to social isolation.
I need your help connecting with young women or teens under the age of 22 who would share their stories with me for this article. Names can be changed and no photographs will be involved. I'm looking for personal insights into the problem, causes, and recovery. I am also interviewing medical and psychiatric experts on the subject, but I really need the words of those who have experienced this problem themselves.
Please contact me at gainingcontest[at]gmail.com if you or someone you know would like to share a BDD story.
